Miguel Cortines brings over two decades of leadership experience across Calgary’s nonprofit and business sectors. As a community builder and entrepreneur, he believes Calgary holds an incredible potential to create new opportunities for all citizens, and is committed to representing Ward 8 with integrity, purpose, and vision.
Through his work with organizations like Casa Mexico Foundation, CCA Alberta, and Innova International, Miguel has connected people, empowered creators, and driven meaningful growth. His campaign for City Councillor is rooted in responsible development, public service, and open community engagement to help Calgary thrive.
I’ve dedicated my life to connecting people, building communities, and driving meaningful change—from the grassroots to the global stage. As Calgary navigates challenges like housing affordability, infrastructure upgrades, and imminent growth, I am stepping forward to help shape a city that truly works and brings opportunities for everyone.
Ward 8 is a vibrant and diverse community that deserves a councillor who not only listens, but also encourages active participation to bring ideas that will shape the future of our City and district.
Why I’m Running
• Founder & President, Casa Mexico Foundation – Created a leading cultural organization promoting Mexican heritage and cross-cultural dialogue in Calgary.
• President & CEO, Innova International Corporation – Advises local entrepreneurs and SMEs on digital transformation, strategy, and international growth.
• President & Executive Director, Canadian Council for the Americas Alberta – Led initiatives to connect Canadian businesses with Latin American markets, while strengthening economic and diplomatic ties.
With a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and professional training in strategic planning, stakeholder relations, finance and accounting, and project management, I bring both vision and practical know-how to city governance.
I’m also a proud Calgarian with over 23 years of deep community involvement, having collaborated with municipal, provincial, and federal leaders across party lines to advance meaningful initiatives to support creators, entrepreneurs, businesses and innovators in our city.
